Program Structure and Overview

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are fundamental elements concerning agriculture and rural development activities. ICT has tremendous potential to increase efficiency, productivity, and service quality in agriculture and allied sectors. ICTs enhance the capability and capacities of rural citizens through effective information access. There is a growing need to harness the potentials of ICT (mobile phones, internet, satellite maps of natural resources, etc.) for agriculture and rural development. M.Sc. (ICT in Agriculture and Rural Development) is a unique program designed to train graduates in the application of ICT in agriculture and rural development.

The Master of Science (ICT in Agriculture and Rural Development) Program aims to occupy the unique developmental niche and its interface with the Information and Communication Technology through systemic and constructive interventions in the field of teaching, internship, and research. The courses offered include a couple of basic courses, eight ICT oriented courses and a group of courses on development paradigm. More emphasis is given in orienting the students’ faculty for using ICT tools for development and solution of societal problems. The program thus offers a unique career opportunity to the students in all fields of developmental activities that ranges from natural resources development to urban development and from Research to Market Analysis. It would work towards creating catalysts that will bridge the gap between the developmental issues and the ICT interface. The detailed Program structure, Program core courses, specialization core courses and elective courses can be found on Institute website at The course has been restructured keeping 'development', as perspective in general.
